The peacock is a very common motif in Islamic art.
Like most of the items I offer, this one was purchased at an antique fair in France. At the time of purchase, I didn't really know what I was buying. I was intrigued by the exotic form and beauty of this bird. And I admit that even today I'm not entirely sure what I'm selling. I'm betting on a censer. Although oil lamps have a very similar form. The peacock is a very common motif in Islamic art, both in India and in ancient Persia. Personally, I believe that the censer comes from India and was made at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is probably incomplete, which means it has lost its practical value. However, I still find it beautiful. The bird's head is particularly impressive.
The censer is 30 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 18 cm long.
