I liked its austerity, the simplicity of the ornament, the contrast between the massive silhouette and the lightness of the tail made of thin brass sheet. I also like the predatory expression of the head of this dignified bird. That was enough for me to become the owner of the sculpture.

The word Persia appears in the title of the description as a kind of sign. What I mean is that the object was created within the circle of Islamic art. Perhaps in Iran, India, Syria, or Turkey. I would rather rule out North Africa, although it must be admitted that beautiful bronzes depicting roosters are made in Africa, specifically in Benin. However, these bronzes are of a completely different style.

In my opinion, the sculpture refers to Islamic bronzes from the first centuries of our era. Of course, it is far from the elegance and artistic craftsmanship of those, but the silhouette of the rooster (especially the head and beak) as well as the ornaments on the surface of the sculpture are similar. I believe that the sculpture was created at the end of the 19th century in a provincial center with a rich tradition of casting.

I don't want to pretend to be an expert, because I am not an art connoisseur from this cultural circle. I bought the sculpture based solely on my own sense of aesthetics. I liked its austerity, the simplicity of the ornamentation, the contrast between the massive silhouette and the lightness of the tail made of thin brass sheet. I also like the predatory expression of the dignified bird's head. That was enough for me to become the owner of the sculpture.

The rooster is 35 cm high, its length including the tail is 33 cm, and the width of the bird is 10 cm.
